Georgia Preview: Will We Lay Down And Die?
Welcome to Georgia hate week, where every Auburn fan has the pleasure of hating Georgia as much as possible. When the clock strikes zero on Saturday night, only one team will get bragging rights for the rest of the year, and something tells me that won’t be Auburn. Auburn’s chances at making a bowl game are now impossible, that we already know. But on the other side of the fence, Georgia is one win away from securing their place in the SEC title game.
Georgia rolls in off their big win against Ole Miss, whilst Auburn come in at 2-7 coming off their biggest win of the season against New Mexico State. The last time Auburn won a game this season, they played hard against the next opponent, which was LSU at the time. There is reason for optimism in this one, we may come in and play hard but the question is whether we can get the job done and win the game.
Offensively, Georgia may try to come in and hit Auburn in the mouth early and try to put it out of reach. The last thing Richt will want is for us to hang around, so there’s a good chance that this may start Texas A&M-esque for the home team — Auburn’s defence needs to be ready. Before the season, I was confident that by this time, BVG would have our defence rolling and might put out a good performance against his old team. Right now, there isn’t much to brag about with this defence. I do think it has improved, but only marginally.
Offensively, we still have problems. Wallace will be tested for the first time this year, and how he responds will have a big impact on the game. Can a true freshman step up against a defence like Georgia and pull off the upset? That’s another question that no one knows the answer to.
If we want to pull off the upset — however impossible it may seem — we need to hit the ground early and play hard. Beating Georgia in the trenches will be key, and how Wallace responds to the different defensive looks will also effect how well this offence will flow. Despite the home advantage, I don’t see us pulling out the win here, however I hope to see us play tough and at least look like we’re trying to win the game.
This game will come to line play and Quarterbacks, and Georgia has the big advantage with both. I think Wallace will lead a few drives and put us on the score board a couple of times. Defensively, I hope we keep it respectable.
Prediction: Georgia 34 – 13 Auburn
